Essrig Elementary in Hillsborough County, provides a complete response to the
school board’s Educational Specifications within difficult constraints. Half of the limited 20 acre site is located within
the 100 year flood plane. The location, Florida's regulations for natural ventilation, and Hillsborough's pod approach to team teaching led to the
development of a courtyard solution that provides a pleasant human scale and alleviates congestion.
